LIT4110 Literacy Planning and Assessment: Teaching Students with English as an Additional Language

LIT3110 Early and Fluent Language and Literacy (6-8 years)
 
Description:

This unit addresses the topics of literacy planning and assessment in early childhood, and teaching students for whom English is an additional language.  Theories, principles and pedagogies of language and literacy teaching are covered and students apply this knowledge to planning and assessment.  A range of literacy assessment, monitoring and record keeping methods will be examined.  The unit also focuses on students who speak English as an additional language (EAL).  Pre-service teachers will develop their understanding of culture, issues related to migration, Second Language Learning theory and the teaching and assessment of EAL students.  Appropriate resources for teaching EAL students will also be explored.
