SSE2011 Society and Environment Curriculum in the Early Years

Description:

This unit is designed to engage students in understanding the development of active citizenship in young children (0-8 years).  This will occur through an examination of the theoretical basis of the Society and Environment learning area within the context of the Curriculum Framework.  Pre-service teachers will explore of how young children learn the concepts, skills and values of this learning area.  The unit also investigates a range of socially just and culturally responsive pedagogical and assessment strategies.  It supports pre-service teachers’ evaluation of how these strategies can be adapted to actively engage young students and develop Society and Environment outcomes.  Teaching resources and planning frameworks will be used for developing learning experiences and outcomes.
