SCE2011 Science for Young Children
SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
Credit Points: 15

Description:

This unit provides opportunities for pre-service teachers to examine the nature, development and application of science in daily life for children 0-8 years.  Pre-service teachers will reflect on and develop their own scientific literacy and knowledge. A focus on identifying the early signs of children developing concepts, skills and positive attitudes towards science is a feature of this unit. The pre-service teachers will analyse the processes underpinning scientific investigations as an essential element for science teaching and learning. The literacies of science are investigated, through planning of sequential science experiences for young children. Child-centred science learning experiences and the use a variety of strategies associated with effective teaching will be examined.
