MAE2110 Mathematics Education for Young Children (0-4 years)

Description:

This unit will introduce pre-service teachers to the philosophy and fundamental ideas of early mathematics learning and education.  Pre-service teachers will be introduced to current research and documentation for planning early mathematics experiences for children aged 0-4 years.  The focus of this unit is on the development of early concepts, skills and language when introducing children to mathematics.  An introduction to relevant curriculum documents will also be presented with particular emphasis on young children working mathematically.  The role of the teacher in the development of positive attitudes to mathematics will be emphasised.
