LIT1110 Beginning Language and Literacy (0-4 years)

Description:

This unit provides pre-service teachers with an introduction to communication, oral language and literacy, 0-4 years. Pre-service teachers will explore and critically evaluate theories of language learning and their implication for practice. They will examine social and cultural contexts and their impact on children’s communication, language and literacy development. Opportunities will be provided to gain practical experience in planning, implementing and evaluating experiences and teaching approaches for supporting the language and literacy development of young children. Processes for assessing, monitoring and documenting language and literacy progress of children within family, care and education settings will be examined.
