GEO3125 Western Landscapes: Land Use, Environment and Sustainability
SCHOOL OF COMMUNICATIONS AND ARTS
Credit Points: 15

Description:

This unit examines how Aboriginal and post-European responses to the potentialities of the Western Australian landscape are spatially expressed. Regional geographies are developed through two themes. The first is landuse conflict in the South-West forests, including a field study of the changing form and function of an early timber town. The second concerns the sustainability of agricultural landuse systems in the Wheatbelt, and focuses on the fate of rural communities threatened by the salinity crisis. Both themes highlight social and environmental consequences that are of global concern. Complements GEO1102 City and its Setting, or can be taken as an independent unit.
