This strong, industry-based course is designed to provide students with the essential knowledge, competencies and professional attitudes required by middle and senior levels of management in these areas. The course commences with an introduction to the sport and recreation industries and focuses upon an application of the key aspects of facility planning, economics and finance, legal aspects, research methods, business planning, and relevant professional practice opportunities. Its specialist units in the areas of sport, recreation and event management focus upon the global delivery systems of sport; the management of people in sporting organisations; sport marketing; program development and delivery; the influence of psycho-social factors on recreational behaviour and lifestyle choices; the management of recreation services; sport venue and event management; and the broader management of special events (e.g. festivals, concerts, and community events).
