SCH2226 Human Molecular Genetics
SCHOOL OF MEDICAL SCIENCES
Credit Points: 15
Prerequisites:
SCH1133 Human Genetics

Description:

This unit commences with an analysis of the genetic structure and regulation of gene expression in bacteria and bacteriophages.   Focus then switches to the mapping and isolation of human genes, human DNA replication, transcription and translation and the use of recombinant DNA technology to clone DNA.  In laboratory sessions, students sequence PCR amplicons of human DNA cloned into a bacterial plasmid.  The unit concludes with a molecular analysis of penetrance, expressivity, essential genes, lethal alleles, gene silencing, and genomic imprinting.
