PPA4350 Final Professional Practice

Description:
The Final Teaching Practice for the Graduate Diploma of Education is a Designated Unit which provides the Pre-service Teacher with an opportunity to further consolidate the connection between theory and practice and build upon the experiences gained in the Professional Practice program. Typically, Pre-service Teachers will teach in both major and minor areas during this Professional Practice. The unit gives the Pre-service Teacher the opportunity for continuous teaching for a longer period of time in a more realistic situation. It provides the Pre-service Teacher with the opportunity to further acquire and refine teaching skills, and to function as an autonomous teacher. The Final Teaching Practice is a 7 week block practice where the Pre-service Teacher is required to give a full time commitment in a secondary school. All students are required to be available during the scheduled Professional Practice period as per the School of Education Calendar are required to adhere to the School of Education’s Professional Practice Rules and Procedures and Code of Professional Conduct for ECU Pre-service Teachers. A current DET National Criminal History Record Check (CRC) and a Working With Children Check (WWC) are required before Pre-service Teachers can commence this Professional Practice. PPA 2210 This is a Designated Unit involving a three week placement in a secondary school. This Professional Practice is an orientation practicum which provides Pre-service Teachers with the opportunity to develop an understanding of schools and schooling from a teacher’s perspective - and to start to learn the complex role of a teacher. During this Professional Practice it is important that Pre-service Teachers learn to work collaboratively with Mentor Teachers, University Colleagues and their fellow students and in a way which makes them an asset to the teachers with whom they are to work and learn. Pre-service Teachers are required to be available during the scheduled Professional Practice periods as per the School of Education Calendar and to give a full-time commitment to the school during the scheduled days. All Pre-service Teachers will be required to adhere to the School of Education's Professional Practice Rules and Procedures and Code of Professional Conduct and to hold a current National Criminal History Record Check (CRC) and Working with Children Check (WWC) before commencing their practicum.
