MUE2121 Directing Music Ensembles in Secondary School

Description:

In this unit students will examine in detail issues associated with instrumental teaching and large ensemble direction. For instrumental teaching, the unit will examine a range of teaching methodologies including group teaching philosophies, evaluation and pedagogical issues, with particular reference to the new Post Compulsory course. Ensemble direction will focus on practical skills across a range of ensemble, from concert bands to jazz bands and choirs, while examining the wider legal, general management, organisational role and framework of responsibilities of the music teacher in the ensemble setting. In addition, students will examine the Curriculum Council's Music Course of Study.
