MAE3110 Mathematics Education for Young Children (5-8 years)

Description:

Pre-service teachers will explore the Curriculum Framework and other relevant documents relating to K-3 mathematics.  This unit will also focus on developing the pre-service teachers’ personal mathematical knowledge and understanding of the language of mathematics.  Strategies for classroom management and organisation, planning for children’s mathematics experiences and assessing children’s achievement of mathematics outcomes will be studied in this unit.  The issues of integrating mathematics across the curriculum, the use of rich mathematical tasks, teaching of mathematics to children from diverse cultural backgrounds and the importance of positive home-school partnerships are addressed.
