S93 Graduate Certificate of Secondary Education

The Graduate Certificate of Education (with specialisations in either lower secondary mathematics teaching, lower secondary science teaching, or senior school physics teaching) provides an opportunity for motivated and academically capable teachers to re-train in a learning area of great demand.  An emphasis upon both curriculum content and best teaching practice in Western Australian secondary schools is a strong and consistent theme in each set of pedagogy and content units (four for each choice of subject specialisation). The mathematics and science specialisation unit sets provide both a refresher and a consolidation of content skills for teachers who wish to re-train in the teaching of mathematics or science up to and including Year 10; and the physics specialisation units will allow secondary science teachers to upgrade their learning area specialisation to senior secondary physics. The course is supported by both highly organised materials and flexible delivery for off-campus, and includes the offer of professional mentoring assistance as an ongoing aid to early teaching in the new disciplines.
