The challenges the world faces require big picture people. The Social Sciences major is one way to get the big picture. Through a combination of units in history, politics, and sociology, students take an interdisciplinary approach to their studies. This is because contemporary problems are into neatly packaged. Employers want flexible people who have solid writing and analytical skills and a good general knowledge. Workers in the private and public sectors – teachers, journalists, civil servants and business people – look at a wide range of problems because the workplace is inherently interdisciplinary. The Social Sciences major is too.

The Major in Social Sciences comprises 120 credit points (eight (8) units) with no more than 30 credit points (two (2) units) at Level One and no less than 60 credit points (four (4) units) at Level Three.

A set of eight (8) units must be approved by the Major Coordinator and drawn from at least two (2) of the following disciplines:  History, Geography, Politics and Government, Sociology and Anthropology and including at least 30 credit points (two (2) units) at Level Three in each of two of these disciplines.  Unit selections within the discipline areas are as listed under relevant majors and minors in the Bachelor of Arts Majors.
