This unit aims to provide students with an overview of Indigenous Australian culture and an insight into inter cultural relationships in order to equip students to work effectively with Indigenous Australian children, and their families. It explores the cultural and social factors that impact on the education of Indigenous Australian children. Factors such as socialisation patterns, patterns of language as well as the importance and varying significance of relationships are explored. In this unit students develop skills to facilitate Indigenous Australian children reaching their potential in both their own and mainstream cultures. The unit also addresses the issues and challenges of working with children who speak non-standard Australian English. Full Unit Outline | |||
