This unit is designed for students wanting to become music teachers in a secondary school environment. The unit will examine the development of selected Western music styles in the twentieth century, and will trace folk influences and Neo-classical tendencies in selected English, French, Spanish and other European compositions.  Whole-tone, pentatonic and related techniques will be analysed, as will arranging for ensembles.  Composition and keyboard exercises will involve selected twentieth-century approaches. Instrumental/vocal practicum will build on previous performance studies.
