This unit aims to develop awareness of the breadth of the mathematics curriculum, including developing an understanding of how mathematics has been developed and used in different cultures, and how students’ backgrounds influence their own engagement with mathematics. The unit will examine common student misconceptions in mathematics, and will consider interventions that will assist students to improve their concepts. Specifically, the unit will consider how to develop an inclusive classroom for the development of mathematical ideas and issues relating to teaching, assessing and planning in this environment.
