SCHOOL OF REGIONAL PROFESSIONAL STUDIES
Credit Points: 12
Prerequisites:
ERM1101 Mathematics Education: Thinking and Learning

Description:

This unit extends students thinking beyond number sense and numeracy but focuses heavily on developing Number concepts that underpin the other conceptual threads and Working Mathematically. It concentrates on identifying students with special needs in order to progress their mathematics education. Monitoring progress and assessment tools and techniques will be examined to ensure that students have the skills to professionally develop and implement individual education plans (IEP’s) and logical mathematical education plans for diverse groups of students. Students will focus on thinking and working mathematically, the role and use of language, gender, technology and social issues impacting on learning mathematics. Various tools will be used to plan activities with school students. Research on positive learning environments will underpin an analysis of effective pedagogies applicable to improving learning for individual students. This unit is linked to work place practice and students will be required to connect the theory from the unit to their observations and experiences in school settings.
