ACS3124 Aboriginal Perspectives on the Media

Description:
This unit is concerned with the critical analysis of the experiences of Indigenous Australians as consumers of media products, as subjects of representation and as professionals within the media industries. Issues of ownership, power and control in the media industries are the background against which the media experiences of Indigenous people are considered. The unit traces the history of some Indigenous media organisations and considers their political and cultural significance. Problematic issues such as funding and the possibility of autonomy are addressed.
