Description:

Various scales, chord progressions and rhythmic patterns in the Jazz idiom, are used in this unit to develop students’ facility in the technical and stylistic aspects of improvisation. The ensemble repertoire will be studied. Aural training will focus on melodic and rhythmic development relevant to various jazz periods.

 

This unit in second semester continues to develop the student's improvisational skills with an in depth study of common chord progression formulae found in major keys in the Jazz idiom.
