EAP0004 Working with the Child with Educational Needs

Description:

This unit initially orients students to study by intorducing the program structure and important study skills such as note taking, preparing written and oral presentations, and assisting students to become familiar with the University's referencing techniques. This unit provides a focus on children with Autism, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and looks at how to meet individual needs within the context of both mainstream programmes and special programmes.  This unit provides an overview of the range of services and educational opportunities available to children with speical educational needs, understanding and skills in working with children with learning disabilities, ADHD and behavioural problems.  It also examines the issues of acceptance of disability in the community and school.  These children are typically referred to as "Children at Educational Risk". It explores the causes of these disabilities, methods of providing appropriate learning activities and behaviour management techniques.  It also examines the support agencies and systems to assist teachers, assistants and families in the management of these children.
