Description:

This unit initially orients students to study by introducing the programme structure, and  important study skills such as, note-taking, preparing written and oral presentations, and assisting students to become familiar with the University's referencing techniques. The unit then investigates the social, emotional, physical and cognitive development of children aged 0-12 years and how current theory informs the development and implementation of learning programs for 3-8 year old children. Opportunities will be provided for students to understand how planning integrated, learning experiences, establishing learning environments, and assessment construct learning programs. Finally, the unit aims to build students' understanding of the diverse role of the Education Assistant in Western Australian schools, the issues associated with the workplace, the issues and strategies associated with applying for a position as an Education Assisant, and career development.
