Description:
This unit explores the physical, social and psychological factors determining the need for some frail aged and disabled people to seek residential care. The range of residential facilities available is discussed, along with their characteristics and evolution. The impact of residential life on the individual is considered. Skills of programming in a residential facility including those which encourage self determination and personal power are encouraged. Government policies and planning relating to residential care are evaluated, and creative options for senior populations are also explored.
