Description:

This unit addresses issues with regard to mental health and society. It focuses on the development of the knowledge and skills required by student ambulance officers that allow them to act as effective members of an ambulance crew when dealing with patients suffering from a mental illness. Various approaches to managing the mentally ill in the community that are both responsive to the needs of the wider community, as well as the mentally ill individuals and their families will be explored.
