This unit builds on the skills learned in the prerequisite and teaches students the skills required to work in specialist alcohol, tobacco and other drug (ATOD) areas. The skills addressed include coercive counselling, as used in Drug Courts and other settings; screening and brief interventions. The unit also addresses skills required for harm reduction counselling, that is with those clients who continue to use alcohol, tobacco or other drugs.
