SCHOOL OF REGIONAL PROFESSIONAL STUDIES
Credit Points: 12

Description:

This unit provides an opportunity for students to develop knowledge and skills for teaching science to lower secondary level. Students will develop their own scientific literacy and come to understand the role of science in making sense of the world. Several approaches to teaching science will be discussed with a focus placed on structuring learning experiences that pay attention to the developmental level of students. Process oriented, material-centred experiences are emphasised concentrating on the use of easily available materials to investigate scientifically. Concepts in the area of Energy and Change, to a lower secondary school level, will be covered. This unit is linked to work place practice and students will be required to link theory from the unit to their observations and experiences in school settings.
