C12 University Preparation Course

The University Preparation Course is an alternative entry pathway to Edith Cowan University (ECU).

The course will prepare students for university level study by teaching the required skills for academic success with an emphasis on the student becoming an independent learner.  Students are enrolled in the University Preparation Course on a full-time basis and may be eligible for the Youth Allowance.  Details about the availability of the Youth Allowance may be obtained from Centrelink (Tel: 132490).

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The University Preparation Course is open to school leavers and recent school leavers who are under 20 years of age.  Two groups of school leavers will be considered, based on the following selection criteria:

Near miss TER:

Each year ECU sets a minimum Tertiary Entrance Rank (TER) for standard entry into the University.  School leavers who sit the Tertiary Entrance Examinations and attain a TER just below this minimum TER may be offered a place in the University Preparation Course.  Current TEE students will receive advice on their Universities Admission Advice Letter (UAAL) sent in December.  This letter will tell them whether they can add this course to their TISC preferences.

School Leaver with no TER:

School leavers with four or more Year 12 subjects from the set of approved wholly school-assessed subjects, or from a mix of these and Tertiary Entrance Examination (TEE) subjects, but no TER, may apply for entry to the University Preparation Course.  The criterion for entry for these applicants is a score of 8 or more 'Points'.  Points are allocated for four 'approved' Year 12 wholly school-assessed subjects (which may include TEE subjects) based on the following scale:

*Year 12 TEE subject pass = 5 points

*Grade A = 5 points

*Grade B = 3 points

*Grade C = 1 point

Mature Age Students Entry

Mature Age Students must be aged over 20 at 1 March in the year of admission; and

  • have a STAT score of 125 or above for the Multiple Choice component and 125 in the Written English component of the STAT.
