ENM2107 Properties of Engineering Materials
SCHOOL OF ENGINEERING
Credit Points: 15

Description:

This unit develops students' knowledge of engineering materials, both metallic and non-metallic, and enables them to select materials on the basis of their inherent properties and the processing techniques that are applicable to them. It gives them the knowledge to relate the failure of materials to the failure of engineering products and systems, with due consideration to the geometry of components. It explores methods of strengthening materials, and modifying their properties through different processes to suit the requirements of the intended application. It also considers advanced processing methods for improving the cost effectiveness and/or recyclability of engineering materials, and where relevant, reducing the environmental impact of the waste materials.
