Description:

This unit is designed to provide knowledge of significant aspects of small business management. This is a capstone unit and will apply different aspects of knowledge gained in general and human resource management, strategy and planning, marketing and finance in the context of small business. The economic and social importance of small business is discussed, together with how and where small businesses fit on the business continuum. Small business ownership motivation; business start-up and location options; HR and training; innovation, growth and failure; as well as business exiting are also examined. Additionally, contemporary issues such as women in business, the phenonmenon of home-based business, family small business succession, and small business environmental management will be explored.
