There is great variation in the way in which Australians view disability and the manner in which services are provided for people who have disabilities. This unit aims to describe and explain those variations. To this end, the unit considers disability within its social context by first describing the historical treatment of people with disabilities. The policy, structural and legislative context of modern formal disability services will also be analysed within a framework of dominant cultural values and ideologies. | |||
