ICS3051 Globalisation and the Internet: Political, Social and Creative Implications

Description:

This unit examines the global implications of the Internet by investigating the intersection of social, political and economic contexts with contemporary cultural practices such as blogging, social networking sites, creative practices and activism, taking as case studies new social movements that aim for social change on an international level. The focus will be on a practical and theoretical analysis of how the digital world is increasingly being used by employers, businesses, non-government organizations (NGOs) and UN agencies. A historical analysis of what constitutes a social space and whether the Internet can provide a functioning ethical social space is central to this unit.
