MIS3703 Strategic Information Technology Management
SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
Credit Points: 15

Description:
This aim of this unit is to provide IT professionals with an understanding of the major issues organisationsí face when planning for the effective use of information technology. In particular, students will consider how IT can enable businesses, in diverse industry settings, to broaden and meet their strategic objectives. Management processes, such as strategic IS planning, IT governance and IT evaluation methods are explored. The contemporary IT strategies and prevalent IS applications will be discussed and their strategic advantages and disadvantages examined. This will provide students with a rich understanding of the relevance of these approaches and the potential outcomes. The unit is not a technical unit, and does not deal with what is technically new and fascinating other than in a purely managerial sense. It focuses on how best managers can use IT in modern organisations to maximise the long-term well-being of that enterprise.
