G81 Bachelor of Criminology and Justice

INTRODUCTION

This course adopts a contemporary international approach to criminology and justice education. It seeks to develop educated practitioners. Therefore, graduates will possess a significant background in contemporary theory and research that informs criminology and justice professions. They will also possess the skills that are required for entry level positions in criminology and justice professions. This dual approach will prepare graduates for positions of future leadership.

 

Students are required to complete 18 units (270 credit points) from their major field of study. These units facilitate a comprehensive understanding of the nature of criminology and justice and the principal disciplines that inform criminological and justice related issues. Those principal disciplines are law, political science, psychology and sociology. Students are also required to complete a six unit minor (90 credit points) from a related discipline or 6 elective units (90 credit points).

 

COURSE LOCATION AND MODE OF STUDY

The Bachelor of Criminology and Justice is available by full-time and part-time study at the Joondalup Campus in the internal mode with most units being available in the online mode of delivery.

YEAR ONE - SEMESTER 1
Students are required to complete the following units :
 
CRI1101 Australian Criminal Justice System (Law, Police, Courts and Corrections) 15
CRI1102 Quantitative Research Methods in Criminology&Justice 15
CRI1103 Criminology 15
Plus one minor or elective unit of 15 credit points
 
YEAR ONE - SEMESTER 2
Students are required to complete the following units :
 
CRI1104 The Psychology of Criminal Behaviour 15
CRI1105 Psychology and Criminal Justice 15
CRI1106 Minority Groups as Offenders and Victims 15
Plus one minor or elective unit of 15 credit points
 
YEAR TWO - SEMESTER 1
Students are required to complete the following units :
 
CRI2101 Professional Skills - Case Management 15
CRI2102 Qualitative Research Methods in Criminology&Justice 15
CRI2103 Correctional Studies - Theory and Practice 15
Plus one Level 2 minor or elective unit of 15 credit points
 
YEAR TWO - SEMESTER 2

CRI2105 The Family and Family Law 15
 
Plus one unit selected from :
CRI2106 Victimology 15
CRI2107 Foundations of Criminal Law 15

YEAR THREE
Students are required to complete the following units :
 
CRI3101 Ethics in Criminal Justice 15
CRI3102 Indigenous Offenders and Victims 15
 
Plus four units selected from :
CRI3103 Juvenile Justice 15
CRI3104 Organised Crime 15
CRI3105 Community Corrections (Theory and Practice) 15
CRI3106 Media and Justice 15
CRI3107 Offender Profiling 15
CRI3108 Justice and Forensic Science 15
CRI3109 International Human Rights 15
CRI3110 Workplace Practicum 15
CRI3111 Workplace Practicum 15
Plus two Level 3 minor or elective units of 15 credit points
 
*CRI3110 and CRI3111 must be completed in the final semester of study. Both units must be taken in the same semester.
