A79 Advanced Diploma of Music (Jazz)

This is a vocational program aimed at producing performers and writers for the Jazz music industry. On completion of this award, it is expected that students will find employment as musicians in performing groups, the recording industry, arranging music, composing music, television, radio, film/video and commercial theatre. Successful students may audition for other courses within the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

 

This VET course is offered by WAAPA as a Registered Training Organisation under the Australian Quality Training Framework. The Units of Competence from the nationally accredited Music (CUS01) Industry Training Package are clustered within the course delivery units. These delivery units form training in the industry areas of principal study, ensemble, improvisation, arrangement and composition, electronic music, concert practice, history, aural, keyboard skills, professional practice, large ensemble, OH&S and Copyright.  Details of the specific delivery arrangement for each Unit of Competence are available from the Head of Department.  The course includes all the Music Industry Training Package requirements for the Diploma with an exit award of an Advanced Diploma of Music (Jazz) on the successful completion of two years full-time study.

To be eligible to enter this course, students will need to pass an audition/interview.

COURSE STRUCTURE

All delivery units are full year units.

The Advanced Diploma in Music (Jazz) course at WAAPA provides students with a total of 29 units from the Music Training Package. Students commence the program at AQF level 5 - Diploma and graduate at AQF level 6 - Advanced Diploma after two years full time study.

In Year One of the program, students complete 14 units of pre-requisite knowledge from the AQF level 5 - Diploma.  In Year Two, students complete an additional 15 units to qualify for the Advanced Diploma of Music.

These Units of Competency are clustered within the course delivery units of principal study, ensemble, improvisation, arrangement and composition, electronic music, concert practice, history, aural, keyboard skills, professional practice, large ensemble, OH&S and Copyright.
