G64 Master of Applied Linguistics

INTRODUCTION

The Master of Applied Linguistics is offered jointly by the School of International, Cultural and Community Studies and the School of Education.

 

The course can be completed in one year full-time or part-time equivalent.  It provides an opportunity to extend students’ knowledge of language issues and their analytical and critical expertise, providing for advanced scholarly and professional work in a field relevant to applied linguistics, leading to the completion of a piece of research.

 

COURSE LOCATION AND MODE OF STUDY

The course is available by full-time or part-time study on Mount Lawley campus.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

A strong level of performance in a relevant four year qualification such as a Bachelor of Arts honours degree, the Bachelor of Education or a relevant Graduate Diploma of Arts with an adequate background in language and linguistics.

 

For admission a student must have a relevant first class or upper second class honours degree.

 
The Master of Applied Linguistics has two stages.

Stage One comprises four units, including two research preparation units, and Stage Two comprises a research thesis equivalent in scope to one full-time semester.

STAGE TWO
The thesis component of this course is entirely research based and equivalent to one semester of full-time study. Students (re)enrol into research thesis unit: LAN6200 or LST6200 (depending on specialisation and school of supervisor). Students may enrol full-time or part-time as negotiated and agreed with their supervisor.
 
Students are required to continue re-enrolling in the thesis component of their study until the thesis is submitted for examination.
