308 Bachelor of Science

INTRODUCTION

The Bachelor of Science is designed to provide high quality science and technology based studies in a wide range of areas from which students can select combinations relevant to their aspirations. Provision for breadth of study within a flexible framework gives students the opportunity to meet current and future needs of employers in a wide range of professions. In addition, the course is a suitable preparation for a range of postgraduate, professionally based, science courses.

 
SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition to standard admission requirements, students must have achieved a pass in one TEE Science subject or one TEE Mathematics subject or equivalent. Equivalent studies include bridging units in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The Bachelor of Science award consists of 24 units comprising:

 

Eight unit science major chosen from the list below.

Plus

Eight unit second major chosen from the list below.

Plus

Eight unit approved combination of units from within the Faculty or anywhere in the University.

 

Restrictions on the selection of units are as follows:

  • no more than twelve 1000 level units can be used towards the award;
  • at least four 3000 level units must be completed.

 

Variations to the above restrictions require approval of the course coordinator.

ADMISSION TO HONOURS PROGRAMS

Students with a Weighted Average Mark of at least 70% in the Bachelor of Science and a minimum of 10 units in one science major may transfer to an Honours program with the approval of the relevant discipline coordinator.  The Honours program consists of one additional year, or part-time equivalent, with a research focus.
