The Assistant Teacher Programme (ATP) in the Graduate Diploma of Education (Middle Years) is an extended practicum designed to provide the opportunity to experience a full term in a middle school or lower secondary school. The student assumes the role of an assistant teacher and has the opportunity to further acquire and refine teaching skills through working with Year 8 and/or Year 9 classes. By the end of the seventh week of term the assistant teacher is expected to have reached the standard for graduation and to be able to take on 80% of the teaching load of a qualified teacher. | |||
