WRT3120 Biographical and Autobiographical Writing

Description:

This unit surveys a large range of autobiographical and biographical writing, life stories and personal history narratives. Several different models are examined, analysed and practised. Particular attention is given to the kinds of research and preparation required prior to writing, as well as to workshop practice to a variety of autobiographical and biographical writing forms. The importance of contextual background research of the life subject is emphasised. The theories and methodologies of biographical writing are examined, critiqued and practised. Target markets, readership, and publication are important areas of focus. Also under primary consideration are the ethics and legalities of personal history research. The unit's ultimate outcome is the completion of an autobiographical or biographical project.
