Design is a rapidly changing discipline which sits at the very heart of the communication industry. 2D design has broadened over the years and its focus, skill base, responsibilities and media use have moved into a range of different and new, ever changing outcomes, uses and applications. Today 2D designers are required to be not only typographers, art directors, graphic designers and layout artists but also have an understanding of web design, video direction and editing, sound engineering and design, illustration work, image manipulation and the like. They also need to have an understanding and engagement with the methodologies and developments of the digital media.

ECU's exciting new Degree of 2D Design recognizes, encapsulates and explores these new skill requirements. In combination with the recommended Graphic Design supporting major, students are guided through a cumulative series of fun, challenging, unique and engaging units of 2D based design workshops which lead students to a broad understanding of the underlying disciplines of design across a range of media, design skills, professional outcomes and design applications.
