J14 Master of Public Health

The Master of Public Health is recognised nationally and internationally as the appropriate qualification for those health professionals seeking to work in the public health domain. The award includes coursework, research and thesis. The coursework components provide students with the general knowledge and skills for promoting and maintaining the physical, social and mental health of the public. The research and thesis components will enable students to focus in depth on their chosen area of public health.

 

COURSE LOCATION AND MODE OF STUDY

Full-time or part-time study.  Units will be offered off-campus through external and on-line modes.  Some units may be available on Joondalup Campus.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Relevant undergradaute degree.  Refer to the Graduate School for full details.

 

 
Students will complete twelve units of study, including core units, major units, elective units and thesis units. Students are required to complete:
 
HST5120 Epidemiology 20 
HST5161 Public Health: Philosophy, Principles and Practice 20 
 
Research unit chosen from:
RES5101 Research Preparation: Methods of Research 20 
RES5102 Research Preparation: Qualitative Approaches 20 
RES5103 Research Preparation: Quantitative Research Methods 20 
 
3 units as specified for the chosen major; and
2 thesis units equivalent to one year full-time study
 
Students can choose from the following majors:
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health
Addiction Studies
Environmental Health
Health and Ecology
Health Promotion
Men’s Health Studies
Occupational Safety and Health
Public Health
Women’s Health
