This unit develops an understanding of telecommunication networking
technologies, with particular emphasis on their structures, applications and
services. It covers the deployment, operational and management issues related to
access networks, metropolitan area networks, and long-haul networks. It
evaluates alternative technologies for each segment of the network, and develops
