This unit introduces students to the theories and concepts of Women's Studies, by providing various perspectives on women's lives. Historical, anthropological and sociological perspectives are used to explore the role of women in different times and places. An exploration of feminist understandings of the body, sexuality and difference is followed by a detailed investigation of the positions of women in relation to institutions such as the family, school, workplace, media and politico-legal structures. Particular attention is given to the history of women's activism in Australia and to the contemporary provision of services to women. | |||
