This unit explores how database and data warehouse systems are managed in organisations. It is a practical guide to designing, building, and implementing databases (DB) and corresponding data warehouses to support organisational goals. Students will use design concepts and advanced Structured Query Language (SQL) to define a database and parse the data into a data warehouse. Online analytical processing tools will be utilised to deliver meaningful business information. For business managers, database management and warehousing promises significant competitive advantage for their companies. This unit will use a prevalent database application to ensure that students have a sound understanding and practical knowledge of this important component of Information Systems (IS).
