This unit will introduce students to some of the philosophical and theoretical underpinnings and main elements of practice of social work as a human service profession, with particular applicability to micro-interventions in rural, regional and remote (RRR) locations. Students will be introduced to the concept of professionalism and the characteristics of professional practice. They will develop a beginning understanding of personal practice models and underpinning ethics and theories as they relate to their development as social workers.
Students will further develop their skills in reflective practice and explore a variety of social work intervention methods, with an emphasis on assessment processes. The unit will focus on the development of interpersonal and interactive skills, within a conscious use of self and ethics, and the application of these as typically undertaken in counselling and micro intervention situations. | |||
