This unit provides an introduction to the fundamental theories, principles and techniques of managerial finance. Students will gain knowledge of the major issues in business finance and the models and theories that have been developed to help us understand how the financial world works. The focus of the unit is on the investment and financing decisions make by all businesses. Students will first learn the important financial concepts such as time value of money and valuation of different types of securities before tackling the investment decisions which include topics such as capital budgeting, portfolio theory and the capital asset pricing model. Having considered how businesses invest their funds, students will learn how those funds are financed and their costs, and the topics covered are the cost of capital, capital structure decisions, dividend policy and current assets management. Finally, students will be introduced to the concept of market efficiency and the developing field of behavioural finance. Full Unit Outline | |||
