Cultural tourism refers to forms of tourism that highlight the cultural aspects of a destination or tourist experience. This is a broad subject area and includes ‘tangible’ cultural elements, such as historic buildings, monuments and cultural arts and crafts and ‘intangible’ culture, incorporating indigenous culture and artistic or cultural performances. This unit will explore issues relating to the development and management of various forms of cultural tourism, paying particular attention to heritage and indigenous cultural tourism. It will examine the emergence and growth of these forms of tourism, the characteristics of tourists interested in these activities, and the challenges facing managers in achieving sustainable cultural tourism. The unit will culminate in students completing a project report on a specific case study of cultural tourism. Full Unit Outline | |||
