This unit introduces students to bioinformatics and its application to scientific investigation and practice. Students will investigate the identification and retrieval of biological and biomolecular information via the Internet and other online sources and will gain an introductory knowledge of molecular modelling. The principles and techniques of data management and storage and data mining as they apply to biological and biomolecular information will be investigated together with an examination of development trends in bioinformatics and their implications for molecular biology.
