G79 Bachelor of Contemporary Arts

This degree program is primarily designed to prepare students for a career as artists, creators, researchers, curators etc and in the teaching of the creative and performing arts.

 

Students will specialise in either Visual Arts, Contemporary Performance, Contemporary Fashion studies. Students combine professional education studies with specialist content studies. Graduates will have a qualification in the contemporary arts and will be a highly skilled and knowledgeable practitioners allowing them to access a wide range of career-related opportunities.

 

Students in Geraldton are given the opportunity to study the Visual Arts major through the Geraldton Universities Centre (GUC).

SPECIAL ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

In addition, students will be required to have a portfolio interview or audition.

COURSE STRUCTURE

The Bachelor of Contemporary Arts degree is a 360 credit point, three year full-time award which may be studied in part-time mode.

 

The degree has three main components:

  • a foundation program of 60 credit points and four specialised electives (60 credit points), completed in first year
  • a Major program consisting of 120 credit points in a specialised area (listed below)
  • a supplementary program consisting of 120 credit points from one of the following options:
    • a second Major from the Bachelor of Contemporary Arts or from any other program in the School of Communications & Contemporary Arts; or at ECU; or
    • a Minor study from outside the School, plus electives; or
    • an elective program of 120 credit points.

 

GENERAL RULES

Whatever pattern students choose:

  • normally no more than 150 credit points may be studied at first year level;
  • at least  60 credit points must be at third year level.
