G88 Bachelor of Music | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The Bachelor of Music is a three-year, 360 credit point, undergraduate degree program designed to prepare the student for entry into the music profession. The course divides into five majors, and at the outset students choose their specialisations from the following: Classical Performance; Jazz Performance; Composition and Music Technology; Contemporary Music; and Music Studies (those students interested in music education, offered jointly between WAAPA and the School of Education, should apply directly to the School of Education). The strength of the programme is in its interdisciplinary nature. For example, not only are the core areas of history and theory taught through a broad range of music, at every stage in the course the structure allows students to pursue highly specialist training in an area outside their major. With strengths in performance, composition, musicology, music technology and theory, the Music Programme has a large staff of pedagogues and scholar/performers whose expertise spans the whole gamut of the music world today.
WAAPA delivers courses with a focus on employability demonstrated by the high success rate of graduates gaining meaningful employment in the industry nationally and internationally. It provides an authentic workplace integrated learning environment through the engagement and collaboration with industry professionals and the diverse number of public performances and exhibitions where students under supervision can transfer their skills into professional venues both at WAAPA and externally. In addition, WAAPA also believes that students’ learning journeys are not only about core technical expertise but are also about gaining core values, ethics, knowledge, skills and capabilities for their professional and personal growth. Therefore all WAAPA courses ensure that graduates gain skills in strong communication, community engagement, cultural awareness and teamwork. Most importantly, courses also facilitate critical appraisal to inspire confidence in creativity and innovation, the generation of new ideas, consideration of wider societal and cultural aspects related to their practice, and an international perspective in teaching and learning. |
