INTRODUCTION

The School of Computer and Security Science offers this course designed to prepare students for careers in the fields of computing and software development. The program focuses on the practical and theoretical dimensions of computer science and students select at least one of three major streams of study:

• Computer Science
• Games Programming
• Software Engineering

Students may also select a second major chosen from the above plus:

• Information Technology
• Computer Security
• Or a Major selected from outside the School or an Elective program

Standard university admission requirements apply.

Applicants will require for the Games Programming  major:

Satisfactory performance in WACE Mathematics 3A/3B or 3C/3D or Mathematics: Specialist 3A/3B or 3C/3D or equivalent.  For students without these qualifications the option is available to study MAT1163 as a condition of entering the Games Programming major.  Always consult the course coordinator first before committing to any enrolments in this area.

The Bachelor of Computer Science degree is a 360 credit point three year full-time award which may be studied in part-time mode.

The degree has three main components:

1.               a Foundation program of eight units
2.               a Major program consisting of eight units in a specialised area (listed above)
3.               a Supplementary program consisting of eight units comprising:   

• a second Major from the School of Computer and Security Science or from outside the School:  students are recommended to follow this option

     Or

• an Elective program of eight units

GENERAL RULE

Regardless of which pattern students choose, it is required that no more than twelve of the units (180 credit points) studied are at first year level.
