N06 / 427 Graduate Diploma of Science (Environmental Management)

The Graduate Diploma of Science (Environmental Management) provides opportunities for professionals who have graduated in fields other than environmental management to extend their knowledge in the field of environmental management.  The course provides a continuing education pathway for those employed in a variety of private and public sector organisations who require a broad and practical knowledge of the current approaches and techniques which are essential for environmental problem solving.  The course covers the areas of environmental impact assessment, planning and monitoring set in the context of major ecosystems, and emphasises the global, regional and local nature of environmental issues.

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Normal admission requirement is a degree in an area other than environmental science or environmental management.

 

Students must have access to a computer capable of accessing the Internet, and CDROM technology.

 

MODE OF DELIVERY

The course will be offered in external mode only.  Delivery will be via materials delivered largely on-line or on CDROM.

 

 
Stage 1
SCI4142 Coastal and Marine Systems 15
SCI4143 Land Degradation and Management 15
SCI4144 Forest Ecology and Management 15
SCI4151 Biological Conservation 15
 
Students who satisfactorily complete all four units may exit at this point with a Graduate Certificate in Environmental Management, or elect to continue on to Stage 2, the Graduate Diploma.
 
Stage 2
In addition to the above four units, students will complete the four following units:
SCI4145 Environmental Administration and Planning 15
SCI4146 Inland Aquatic Systems 15
SCI4147 Fundamentals of Remote Sensing and GIS 15
SCI4148 Environmental Economics 15
